This Diwali, as homes across Mumbai worship Lakshmi and Ganesha for prosperity, we remembered what Riddhi and Siddhi truly stand for: prosperity and fulfilment. At Riddhi Siddhi Charitable Trust, we have always believed that prosperity means nothing unless it is shared. On 27 October 2026, we lived that belief on the streets of Mumbai.
The preparation began days earlier. Our team sat down with lists, calls and spreadsheets to find out where the need was greatest. Volunteers spoke to shelter workers, local shopkeepers and street vendors who see the city's homeless every day. The answer kept coming back the same: people are not just hungry today. They do not know where tomorrow's food will come from.
Hot, freshly cooked meals for today. Ration kits for tomorrow, each one packed with rice, atta, dal, cooking oil, salt, sugar, tea and spices, enough to keep a small family going for several days.
And because it was Diwali, every kit carried a little festival too: a box of mithai, a pack of diyas and a small packet of rangoli colours.
On the morning of the drive, our volunteers lined up the kits in neat rows and loaded them into vehicles. Some were first-timers, a little unsure of what to expect. By the end of the day, every one of them said they would come back.
Under the Bandra East skywalk, we met Savita (name changed), a mother of three who had lost her work as a house help a few months ago. Since then, the family had been living on the pavement, surviving on whatever kind strangers offered.
When she received a ration kit, she opened it right there and checked every item, as if she could not quite believe it was real. Then she looked up and said:
“Ab bachchon ko kuch din bhookha nahi sona padega.”
(Now my children will not have to sleep hungry for a few days.)
Her youngest daughter had already found the diyas. She held one up and asked if they could light it that night. For the first time that day, Savita smiled.
That sentence stayed with our team long after the vans were empty.
Across the day, Riddhi Siddhi Charitable Trust served 800 meals and handed over 500 ration kits to homeless individuals and families at 5 key Mumbai locations, from Bandra and Mahim to Matunga, Chembur and Ghatkopar. Each kit was handed over personally, with a few minutes of conversation, because dignity matters as much as food.
This is not a one-day event for us. It is a promise. We will keep coming back, to the same corners and to new ones, until fewer people have to ask where their next meal will come from.
And we cannot do it alone. Every ration kit you sponsor, every hour you volunteer and every share of this story helps us reach one more family.
✦ True prosperity is not what we keep. It is what we share. Shubh Deepavali.
